Is your central heating system suffering from old age? The efficient working life of a boiler is estimated at 15 years and if yours is becoming temperamental, now could be the time to replace it.

Energy Efficiency

Boilers lose efficiency as they grow older. Any boiler more than 15 years old may as low as 50% efficient. A new conventional or combination boiler has an efficiency of around 80%.

Simply changing your boiler could reduce your energy bills by up to 35%!

Modern boilers are reliable and quiet and faster to warm up. Being much smaller than their predecessors they can be fitted into smaller spaces, even an airing cupboard, or wall-mounted in the kitchen.

Condensing boilers
These super-efficient boilers help you do something to really help the environment, at the same time as reducing your heating bills by up to 45%.

Condensing boilers are so-called because the incoming combustion air is pre-heated by the hot waste gases so reducing heat losses. This process cools the outgoing gases to the extent that condensation occurs in the flue - hence the name 'Condensing' boiler. The condensate is then drained away.

These boilers cost more, but by recovering the waste heat in this way, they are much more efficient and reduce heating costs even more giving a return on the extra investment. Perhaps more importantly, by saving energy, it helps to protect the environment by combating climate change.

For example, a 'Combination boiler' such as the Vaillant Turbomax 828 E has an efficiency of 80%, whereas the Vaillant Ecomax 828 2E, the 'Condensing' equivalent, runs at 91%. The system and radiators have exactly the same warm up time and performance - the only noticeable difference is the reduction in your heating bills.
You may be eligible for help with some or all of the cost of replacing your boiler. There are grants for all homeowners choosing a condensing boiler. Take a look at the grants available.
